The Isle of Man.
Equidistant from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales the Isle of Man is just one hour’s flying time from London. A United Kingdom Crown Dependency, ‘The Island’ as it is affectionately known, measures just 221 square miles, though what it lacks in size it makes up for in stature.
The Site.
The history of the actual breakwater dates to 1864 when John Goode C E of London set about designing a harbour consisting of rubble topped with 17-ton concrete blocks to provide 3 to 5 fathoms at low tide. Over time several storms damaged the structure though the debris left a somewhat natural breakwater that now protects the bay.
